Razor blades
Razor blades tend to be used for thinner materials like metalized polyester foils and films at the thinner end of the range. Razor blades are very cheap but are quite fragile when compared to other cutting methods and are unable to cope with thicker materials.
The razor blades used in slitter machines are very similar to the type used in old-fashioned shaving products, they are held in place by razor holders that work by either clamps or by a series of magnetic 'pins'.
On slitter rewinders razor blades tend to be held in place by being clamped in holders on a bar that runs through the machine or in holders in something called a razor comb. A razor comb is a wide strip of metal that has many very narrow slots machined out of it. A razor comb can hold razors in place very securely, whereas (if poorly manufactured) a razor clamped to a bar might be unstable if cutting a high-speed material.
